From the Office of the Provost, College of Health Sciences Nnewi Campus

I consider it a great privilege and indeed it gives great pleasure to pen a few words for the rejuvenated Medical Research Society (MRS) of the College of Health Sciences of Nnamdi Azikiwe University. There is no doubt that the university is primarily a place for teaching and research and the latter can be advanced by a strong viable research society.

A research society offers an interdisciplinary platform to exchange ideas, develop research clusters and collaborate in research as well as publicizing the results of those initiatives. A research society should be at the forefront of organizing conferences, facilitating the publication of research and nurturing young minds by aiding the spread of critical knowledge.

I am excited to be at the helms of affairs of the College at this critical time in history and have done and will continue to do all that is necessary to promote the new order. The MRS belongs to all of us and I strongly encourage all members of the four faculties in the College to identify with it for their academic growth and sustainability. Non academic staff with interest in research and publications are also encouraged to align themselves to this vision.

I salute the society president Dr Eric Umeh, the members of the executive and indeed all that have contributed in one way or the other to drive the new vision. I also have special regard for the society’s journal editor Dr George Eleje who has taken up willingly the herculean task of resuscitating the Tropical Journal of Medical Research. I look forward to seeing the crystallization of these sacrifices.

Research, its publications and application constitute a core part of the Vision 200 of our dear Vice Chancellor and the society will do well to support that initiative. It is my sincere hope and belief that moving forward, we will build a strong research society that we will be proud of and that will outlive us.

Congratulations and long live the Medical Research Society of the College of Health Sciences.
