Deputy Provost’s Address

I send you greetings from the Deputy Provosts office of College of Health Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nnewi Campus, Nnewi, Nigeria. It is a good thing to let the world know that the Medical Research Society is still alive and active.

As a society that involves all the Faculties in the College, it is imperative that ideas and interests are shared among and between each other as the need arises as well as with the entire global scientific community.

The times we currently live in, with all sorts of uncertain conditions that may include, medical, psychological, sociological, economic hardship and insecurity, deserve that all hands should be on deck in order to stem the tide of some of these anomalies. People now live in fear – fear of the unknown – and this may heighten the general breakdown of public health.

Academics need to come together and get involved in collaborative research as this is no time to do it alone. There is need to let others know what you are working on and bring in different ideas that may boost the study and make it more robust. Science is increasingly becoming a team activity, with scientists self-organizing into collaborations, including international collaborations.

There is this need of working together with others to reach a common goal. Collaborative research also encourages exchange of ideas across disciplines, learning new skills, access to funding, and ensures higher quality of results. In addition, collaborative researches attract research grants more than other types of research and so people are encouraged to apply for research grants as this will boost the College/Universitys visibility online.

The Medical Research Society encourages scholarly exchange among biomedical scientists and clinicians, public health officials, the medical community and policy makers from all walks of life to publish their research findings in its journal, The Tropical Journal of Medical Research.

I urge the general scientific public to visit the societys website as frequently as possible for therein will updates that concern academics, researchers and scientists be posted from time to time. I congratulate the newly elected executives and wish them well as they pilot the affairs of the society.
